The vineyards scattered throughout the city are mostly on steep slopes that require a lot of expertise and manual labor, and whose grapes sometimes grow barely visible in the middle of residential areas. It’s no wonder, then, that Stuttgart’s hilly terrain is dotted with more than 400 staircases, the so-called „Stäffele“. If you were to climb them all, you would easily cover 20 km!
